stir it shake it up

I went to see Madonna last night. For a 47 year old woman, she can seriously get down. I was impressed with the show, which was elaborate, but not so much impressed with the lack of air conditioning (apparently Madge thinks her vocals are better in a sweatbox... yuck).

Tonight I'm going to see Panic at the Disco... so this week is pretty weird and uncharacteristic for me (although I did see five indie rock bands on Tuesday to try to balance things out. Laura and I will both be at the show tonight, freaking the fuck out most likely. Have you seen her new blog yet? It is magical.

Oh, and according to my interns they do a Smashing Pumpkins cover in the show. Which warms my heart, even though it could potentially be horrendous. We shall see.

Speaking of my interns, apparently we don't give them enough work to do so they have started a blog, which you should read here.

It's pretty good, but I think they could def. mention Tally Hall more.

taken for a ride

Hi!
Welcome to my Tally Hall fan site.

All I have to say is that Rachael and I had a fantastic trip upstate to see the band, who really blew away the entire town of Troy (no, seriously, the ENTIRE town was there even the mayor). They are already MTV darlings, have been played on the OC and are like the indie rock Click Five, except 100% better in my opinion.

They will be here July 30th. You have seen TV on the Radio like a thousand times but haven't seen Tally Hall once. So no excuses. See you at Sin-e. PS THERE WILL ALSO BE FREE SPARKS. YES YOU HEARD ME. FREE. SPARKS.

Tally Hall - Greener

If you are looking for some shows this week, here is what I recommend:
TUESDAY: The Diggs @ Mercury Lounge with Midlake, who play very pretty songs indeed.
WEDNESDAY: The Blend, Little Ones, Land of Talk and Figurines @ Mercury Lounge. I have never seen The Blend before, but their song "In Between Circuit" has been on frequent iTunes circulation for a while.

The Blend - In Between Circuit
OOPS sorry, this show is NEXT WEEK on the 28th. you should really go see The Blend and THEN go see LIAM AND ME at Bowery!

THURSDAY - Levy & The Big Sleep @ Sin-e (incase you haven't seen them yet, because I don't understand you if you haven't) AND/OR The Hourly Radio @ The Annex (I blogged about them when they opened for Stellastarr @ Bowery and they were quite good, I'm looking forward to seeing them in a smaller venue).

And finally, if anyone wants to send me the new Muse album, I would love you forever (I didn't write the entry below, Nicola did, incase there is any confusion on that point... and I didn't sell any Radiohead tickets either!).

not that you asked for one, but here's a random entry...

if you know me at all, you know i freaking LOVE muse. i mean, hell, i've already got my ticket for the august 3rd show at hammerstein :). so anyway, when a friend from london offered to send me a copy of the new cd before it's released in the states on july 11th, i was ecstatic. ECSTATIC!

i got it a couple of weeks ago and i've been trying really hard to like it. REALLY hard. but it's such a departure from 'absolution' (one of my all time favorite albums)... and, i just don't know. it soooo radiohead-y, circa 'hail to the thief'. and, again, if you know me at all, you know i don't really like radiohead. i even sold my tickets to last night's radiohead show for big bucks, and i have no regrets at all. NONE. the cash is paying my way to greece in 2 weeks- so thank you radiohead! and thank you girl-named-jackie-who-bought-my-tickets-for-way-too-much-money! hehe.

anyway, back to MUSE, the single is called 'supermassive black hole'. take a listen and let me know what you think. i can't decide if i love it or hate it:

supermassiveblackhole - muse
(right click, save as PLEASE!)

other than that, i've been kinda falling in love with let go lately. they are amazing live. AMAZING. and as an added bonus, they are some of the nicest guys i've ever met. seriously.

here is their entire album (streamed). take a listen, and fall in love with them too.

it looks like we are going to have fantastic weather in nyc this weekend- i hope everyone has something fun planned!

the new underground

sa-weet.

there is a lot going on this week. sunday night kept me out way too late seeing The Rapture tear Crash Mansion apart. They sounded amazing and played three or four new songs, which sound basically just like their old songs, but still were awesome and kept the crowd dancing like drunken maniacs throughout. One track was called "Devil" I believe. beyond that, I believe that they should ALWAYS play in 350 person capacity rooms and that I'm still madly in love with their cowbell player.

monday night was way too over the top with Kill Hannah and Shiny Toy Guns, and in mean that in a heavy-on-the-eyeliner GOOD way. it was fun. then I woke up with a migraine and that was NOT fun. c'est la vie.

tonight, at the last minute after some free champagne courtesy of the fine folks at Gen Art, I will be seeing We Are Scientists and the Arctic Monkeys AGAIN. yes, i would rather be at Radiohead, but you can't always get what you want. Especially when your friend sold your ticket to someone who offered him 1000 dollars for it.

Crazy!

you know what's random? A really good song just came on my iTunes that I haven't heard before. I go to scope it out, and HEY, it's fucking GUSTER. I used to really love Guster. Even my little sister likes Guster. Your little sister probably likes them too come to think of it. Anyways, the song is called "The New Underground" and you can download it over here. It didn't sound like Guster to me at all though... what do you think?

finally, I'm really excited that Muse are coming back. and I'm seeing Tally Hall on Saturday. All is right with the world!

your secret admirer

So the other day I was walking around the LES with a marg to go when I noticed this flier taped up to a lamp post. Giving it a quick once over, I realized it was a computer generated "secret admirer" note similiar to a Craigs list "missed connection." I pointed it out to Abby, who of course rolled her eyes at the thought of leaving a note for ANYONE you had met at Fat Baby and kept walking.

Fast forward to today, when I was on myspace (aka: all I do all day) and noticed that I had a friend request from "your secret admirer." Despite not being a fan of myspace "dating," I was intrigued and clicked.

YEP, of course, Your Secret Admirer is A BAND.

And the fliers are for their upcoming shows.

I should have known no one was going to find true love at Fat Baby.

free to stay

hey there.

hi.

i'm here, don't fret.

i just took a week off because, oh, you know... it had been a holiday weekend, and I prefer extended holidays. and of course, I've been keeping busy losing hoodies on purpose at the annex, oogling underage stars of panic! at the disco videos, and uh... listening to tally hall.

but i can't listen to tally hall ALL the time, so I was pretty excited to hear that Smoosh's new album comes out TOMORROW. Oh how the time flies, and even on first listen you can hear the difference an adolescent year or two have made on the sound of this young Seattle-based sister duo.

The album is called Free To Stay, and you can check out the first track here:

Smoosh - Find A Way

Gotta spend some more time with the new album, but this is def. an interesting direction these girls are growing towards. Oh, and I just like saying "Smooooooosh" outloud a lot.
