talk to me, but more importantly... dance with me

Over brunch recently, my friend Barbara said to me:

"Lately I just really want to go out and dance. I haven't done that in so long."

On this same note, my intern Dan asked me to make him an "indie rock dance mix." I did, and he said he only liked half of it, but that's just how intern Dan is (you suck! hahaha).

Anyways, here quickly are some fun dance tracks for your indie party, or to listen to at your desk at obnoxiously loud volumes like I do.

Kiss Atlanta tipped me off to this remix of the Snowden song "Black Eyes" which I have always really loved. And I have to say, it's catchy as fuck. I'm a sucker for a great remix, and this absolutely is one. Check out an edited version and the original track also here and make sure you get a copy of Snowden's album Anti-Anti when it comes out on August 22nd on Jade Tree Records. Shake shake shake indeed.

Snowden - Black Eyes (Le Castle Vania Disco Remix)

I shrieked with joy this afternoon when Jon from Wiredset was awesome enough to send out the new Rapture single. I will live and breathe this track until their new album, "Pieces of the People We Love" comes out on September 12th (or uh.. gets leaked on the internet sooner... please?).

The Rapture - Get Myself Into It

Another awesome album that has been getting a lot of desk/dance time lately is the by Teddybears from Sweden, that features some great collaborations with artists like Iggy Pop, Annie, etc. Essentially sort of like every dancefloor loving hipster's wet dream. This track is my currently standout favorite, featuring vocals by Neneh Cherry. I can't get it out of my head.

Teddybears - Yours To Keep

Come see Teddybears DJ at Fat Baby next Thursday, August 3rd. It's going to be a crazy party... more details tba.

And finally, because I just can't help myself and the video is possibly the hottest thing EVER....

Justin Timberlake - Sexy/Back

Oh.. and Lance Bass? Gay. I just want to say for the record that my friend Chris had this pegged back in 1997. Remember when he dated Topanga from Boy Meets World?

Ok now I'm done.

if I wasn't on a 5 am flight to LA the next morning

I would be at this party Friday night:

I missed Think About Life when they played at Knitting Factory with Art Brut and Art Brut 47 and have regretted it ever since because a bunch of people I know raved about the show.

However, there is NO WAY that I am missing the Super Meego party on the 11th, thrown by the non-stop dance machine that is Finger On The Pulse. Super Meego are djs from the chicago group Walter Meego (they are playing at Pianos that same night and you should go). I'm so excited, though I wish that Darren from The Changes was going to be there so that he could dance with me.

Walter Meego - Through A Keyhole

Read: The Diggs keep it perfectly simple

LOVE IT.

(thanks for sending me this Rachael!)

Oh and on an entirely different and exceptionally random note, I was standing outside with my friend Abby yesterday when one of those Camel cigarettes people came up and asked us if we wanted free coupons and lighters (you know what I'm talking about). Anyways, I told her I wasn't into the coupons really, but while she was scanning Abby's ID she goes, "what about tickets to a concert?"

Obviously I was intrigued.

"You guys have concert tickets? Free concert tickets?" The camel lady said yes.

"Who is playing???" asked Abby.

She takes an envelope out of her big bag of lighters and other camel schwag and says:

"Some band called Phoenix? Ever heard of them?"

Seriously.

Inside the envelope was a pair of tickets to a show at Bowery Ballroom on August 7th with Phoenix and the French Kicks! Needless to say, I was all about the tickets. She asked me what the band sounded like, since apparently most of the people she tries to pawn them off on have never heard of the band and aren't interested. So I did my best to explain them to her, throwing in an excess amount of gushing about the French Kick's lead singer (aka future father of my children) etc. etc.

A few minutes later, she's handing me more envelopes. And then more of them. Until between the two of us, Abby and I have 14 tickets to the show. So um.. anyone want to go see Phoenix?

How nuts is that.

incase you hadn't noticed, it's HOT outside.

Siren fest is good for two things: bands and hotdogs. And on Saturday I enjoyed both. What it is perhaps not so good for is free alcohol (okay I realize that saying this is ridiculous, but still) and crowds. Lots of crowds. Lots of alcohol. It was fun though, and I wish I had seen more but in actuality I had seen all of the headlining bands at least once if not multiple times, so I was fine with taking it easy, spending some time on the beach, etc.

As you can see from the flier below, I'm djing tomorrow night and there are a ton of bands playing (ton meaning two) and it's free, and all the djs are girls. It would be nice if you stopped by.

I'm probably going play this song tomorrow too:

The Futureheads - Let's Dance

Tonight I'm off to dirty jerz to spend some quality time with Army of Me and some band called "Rooney." Yes, I am 14.

Oh wait, speaking of 14 year olds, Laura has a link to the new panic at the disco video which (kind of) makes me want to go dunk my head in a fishtank.

funny and/or ironic

Last night Intern David and I went to Mercury Lounge to see Office, a Chicago band who have been getting buzzed about for a while now. I first heard about them from the lads in The Changes, who booked them as one of the openers for their NYE and NYEE shows at Schubas. While I enjoyed their quirky upbeat pop songs when I listened to the album the first time, I wasn't totally blown away by the show, although the girl who plays the cowbell and other various percussion was pretty awesome to say the least (and totes has my dream job). However, at work today I have been listening to their album, Q&A, NON-STOP and have suddenly found myself completely addicted to these feel-good tunes that make me bounce around in my chair.

Office - Q&A

Office - The Big Bang Jump

I stuck around to see Goat Explosion, which was unfortunately more like Elkland part two (same lead singer and seriously, they played 'Apart') but not as good. Then I somehow spilled vodka on my blackberry and now it won't stop constantly vibrating. Oops. IT department at work = not so psyched with Nora today. By the time I got to the Spank Rock party everyone I knew was wasted and all they had left at the open bar was tequila and budweiser select, both which a) could also have damaged the apparently fragile apparatus that is my blackberry and b) i'm not a big fan of. Boo.

The DJ at Stereo (don't ask) did play Skee-lo's "I Wish" which was pretty sweet if you ask me.

In other news:

- a sitcom about williamsburg. on a blog. how appropriate is that :The Burg

- this is quite funny, although I don't recommend using "love your blog" as a pick up line um... EVER.

okay that's all for now kids

ps: hi Piper.
