2006/11/30riders are funny thingsMy first internship when I was in college was at a concert booking agency. Which was cool because I got hooked up with free stuff like passes to see Bjork and I also got to read tour riders all day. Riders are basically a chance for egomaniac rock stars to demand all the comforts of home (well, if your home was a five star hotel) and then some. And while you can ask for the world and a half with a rider, odds are you'll never even get half of it. Though I really wanted to get Tally Hall some hummos and nice white folded towels for their sin-e show, it never actually happened. Anyways, here is a segment from Liam and Me's rider that I found quite awesome. 5. DRESSING ROOM/CATERING REQUIREMENTS Purchaser shall provide at his/her sole cost expense ONE dressing room with a lockable door. The dressing room shall be clean and comfortable, and shall contain adequate lighting, mirrors, comfortable seating and toilet facilities within close proximity. 2006/11/29where have i been?can someone tell me when Clap Your Hands Say Yeah got such CUTE MERCH???? I am a sucker for cute merch. I love my CYHSY t-shirt to death, which is pretty old school, but I would go for that hoodie or the tote bag or both. Tis the indie rock gift giving season, no? also, I think LEVY has broken up. this is very very very very VERY sad news. Here are songs for mourning (unless it isn't true, but someone should really let me know what the deal is!): Levy - Mint Levy - Squeeze however, Editors are working on a new album, possibly ready by the spring! great success, hi five! finally, i went to Pianos last night, celebrated Wes's (aka the tall dutchman) birthday, complained about the new menu at Pianos a lot, and saw a singer songwriter who calls himself Cavalier King. His name is actually Chris Taylor, and he's a handsome guy who sings songs about how he is lonely (suuure). Rachael thinks he sounds like the guy from Beirut. I don't think that comes across on his album, The Sun Revolutions, but otherwise I agreed with her. Cavalier King - The Unprotected posted by n. @ 11/29/2006
2006/11/21love beat radioBEFORE you come to the Skinny this Wednesday night, you should really consider going to this show. Although I have never been to Union Hall, but I hear really good things. And god, I MISS Beat Radio. Last year I put on a show with them and the Diggs at Rothko. God, I can't even believe that was only a year ago, because it feels like an ETERNITY ago. Here is a newish (I think) song from them. Beat Radio - Another Loveless Anthem HOLY CRAP - I just noticed that on their myspace you can download their ENTIRE album. amazing! go now!!! posted by n. @ 11/21/2006
completely awesome : annuals Last week was a crazy week. By Friday night I was dragging myself around, drinking a cocktail at Le One Night Stand that tasted kind of like toothpaste, but it was free. Then I waved the white flag, surrendered, and slept a lot. And I feel much better. What also helped contribute to my exhaustion was going to a ton of shows, including getting to see Annuals at Mercury Lounge. This was a highlight, even though it was the third time I have seen the band. I know I'm obviously the last blogger on the planet to write about them, but this whole Annuals "obsession" was something that took some time to develop. I saw them first at the Friction party at sin-e. I hadn't listened to more than five seconds of their album, Be He Me. While Rachael was in the front row next to me literally looking like she was about to burst with excitement, I was kind of like "ok... let's just get going," especially because I was still kind of dazed from the literal freak out that was Femme Generation. From that show, I determined that Annuals are fun to look at. They are all young and attractive and very different looking. Like (as Rach would say) a cornucopia of interesting looking people who sort of all remind me of different people I went to high school with, on a stage. Sometimes the lead singer draws whiskers on his face and wears costumes and/or ponchos. So when I left Sin-e, I was curious about their album. And then I became completely obsessed with this one song off it called "Complete or Completing." Like I said in my entry last week, it OWNS. I don't listen to any other songs that really sound like it. I don't' even LIKE the Polyphonic Spree (though maybe I should... meh). But anyways, I think this song i great, so download it and then go see them live and yeah. You'll be happy I think. Annuals - Complete or Completing Annuals - Bleary Eyed posted by n. @ 11/21/2006

to my ears, this song equates : HAPPY! i am in such a good mood right now. my wallet has been found, nothing "too" ridiculous happened this weekend (at least not that I recall), and I finally got this mp3 and it is just so AWESOME i can't even stand not to share it anymore. Tally Hall - Smile Like You Mean It (Killers cover) I don't even watch the OC anymore, but I am smiling. Also on a happy note, if you will be in town Wednesday, come to the Skinny because Rachael and I are djing and if you pay 30 dollars there is an open bar from 11pm to 4am. BLOG SHOW SIX and cage dancing and jesus and pittsburg. i sort of think our radio shows get a) more ridiculous and b) also better every week. so why don't you go over to Break Thru Radio and clicky click on "The Blog Show." sexy time! and then you can download these songs from the bands we featured this week. and then go to Rachael's blog and explain to her why Pittsburg isn't Paris. Via Audio - Modern Day Saint The Head Set - Hollywood Skybox Various Kitchen Utensils Ennui - Rukus Last night I went to Rebel to see Cinematics and Benzos. LOVE Cinematics and Benzos (post on them soon), not so much LOVE for Rebel though. Ugh. Though they do have cages that you can dance in there while you watch a band.. you know, if you're into that kind of thing. ALso, I ran into Josh from The Upwelling, and he kind of looks like Jesus now. I didn't really recognize him, and that's not the 9 dollar vodka tonic talking either. But it was good to see him, and I realized I haven't seen his band in about a hundred years so maybe I should sometime soon. Tonight I'm going to see A-Sides and Annuals. I'm really tired, but really stoked to hear "Complete or Completing" because it's kind of the best thing ever. Please don't let me go to Annex afterwards though. Please. Ok thanks. BYE FOREVER! 2006/11/14love locksleyDear Diary, My head hurts today. My head hurts, and Bennys is taking an eternity and a half to deliver my chicken burrito lunch special. Bitch moan. But I am in a surprisingly good mood today too. Why, you ask? because, diary, I saw an amazing band last night and now have the biggest crush in the world on them. They are called Locksley, and they could easily be described as a young, cute, Beatles second-coming. From start to finish, their set at Avalon (ugh, friggin avalon) completely rocked, and they had girls screaming like lovesick maniacs, and guys like my musician friend Alex watching on in impressed awe. The songs are catchy and very toe-tappy, and while they might not be reinventing the wheel with the tracks on their album Don't Make Me Wait, I hope that people will give them a chance. Thanks for listening, Diary. Oh, and before I go, did you know that the Chipotle website has the greatest online ordering system I have ever seen. Rachael thinks we should get the mexican lady who speaks to you to be on our radio show, and I think that would be great. Though maybe she wouldn't be AS good of a guest as Brendan, our favorite waiter at the Olive Garden. It's a toss up, diary. Also, at FAO Schwartz you can now customize your own TUTU. Fuck yeah. That's all for now. Love, Nora ps: Locksley - Don't Make Me Wait Locksley - She Does Locksley - All Of The Time posted by n. @ 11/14/2006

being good : via audio I actually first heard of Via Audio through my friend Abby, which was a bit of a role reversal for us to say the least. But when she begged me to come to Living Room to see them and I agreed, I couldn't have been happier that I did. Originally from Boston, this indie rock quartet who recently relocated to Brooklyn put on a great show and have been garnering a lot of buzz lately. Highlighted by the beautiful vocals of Jessica Martins, these Berklee grads and multi-instrumentalists have some wonderful fun and quirky tunes which will be released on their forthcoming album called Say Something. The track "We Could Be Good" has been stuck in my head for days. Check out these two songs, and then catch the band at Union Hall on November 28th. Visit their myspace, too. 2006/11/09BOAT ROCK. is that like yacht rock? hmm.First of all, don't forget to listen to The Blog Show today. Rachael and I play some great music and this week we talk about some "serious" issues. Well, sort of. CMJ was pretty insane this year, but actually a lot of fun. I have to say I caught most of the acts that I really wanted to see during the day, so that I could go out at night and have fun and didn't have to deal with venue rejection and frustration (like last year). Well, if anyone saw me serving beer at the pure volume loft thursday night, you know I had a good time. One of the bands that I saw that I hadn't seen before was Tall Hands. I only caught them acoustic at the gothamist house, but they were great. They had sleigh bell. Hot. And the singer had a badass purple velvet jacket on. It was great. The band describes their music as "boat rock," although I don't really a) spend a lot of time on boats or b) have any idea what that means. Oh well! Check them out: Tall Hands - Fifteen On Ice Anyways, I'm DJing at the Skinny tonight. 10-4am. Woo. Gotta get back to work, before the Beach House album totally lulls me to sleep. posted by n. @ 11/09/2006
