Oh hayyy blogger friends. CMJ is over and we survived! I'm still putting my coverage together, although I wrote a blurb about my local "winner" Oberhofer for Deli Magazine if you want to check that out.
In the meantime it's halloween, and what better way to celebrate than to go to see Neon Indian for the 835729357th time this year. Seriously if you haven't seen this band yet, or picked up a copy of their album Mind Ctrl: Psychic Chasms Possessed, I'm not sure what rock you live under or what foreign country you were exiled to, but... welcome back!
Just email irockiroll@gmail.com and send me an awesome photo of something neon and I'll pick one of you to win a pair of tix.
CMJ is upon us, and I've been hustling with my friends at NachosNY to put together a lineup for our UNOFFICIAL CMJ Party on Saturday that I could NOT BE MORE EXCITED ABOUT. Seriously all of the bands playing have a special place in my heart, and you know that means a lot. If you haven't already RSVPd - here is the invite, which includes all set times and info on free food and booze and fun to be had.
Oh and did I mention IT IS TOTALLY FREE? And you don't need a CMJ Badge. FREE FREE FREE.
Below is some select tunage from each band playing so that you have a little sampler of what is in store for you.
On June 22nd, Jukebox the Ghost attempted to play in all 5 boroughs of NYC in one day, as part of the "Play Me I'm Yours" public art installation. And of course the always adorbs band filmed the whole thing, as they charmed their way through the city. Check this video and try not to heart them as much as I do.
From the first 10 seconds of my listen to Brooklyn band Red Wire Black Wire's synthesized rock jam "Breathing Fire" (from last year's LP release "Robots + Roses") I was like "oh shit this is great!" - in fact if you ask my office mate he'd probably tell you I said that out loud.
There is definitely a Friendly Fires thing happening, but something a little... grittier...sonic yum all around. And true story I have listened to this song over and over again it might as well burn a hole in my itunes (that would be bad though) and booked them for my CMJ party right away.
MP3s are posted for sampling purposes ONLY. I do not post entire albums and STRONGLY ENCOURAGE everyone who reads this blog to pursue the bands you discover here and fall as madly in love with them as I am. That being said, if any label/company/whathaveyou would like any of the files here to be removed, PLEASE email me and I will personally do so myself without haste. Thanks!
