2007/08/20AFTER THE JUMP FEST - meet Golem & carefully study all this important information. YAY!
Hi kids! So, incase you hadn't noticed the previous posts on here, I just want to point out that the great convergence of the New York City music blogosphere is going down on August 25th - do you have your tickets for After The Jump Fest yet? Personally, I am most psyched that we can now talk about one band that have been added to the line up, and that is exactly what I am going to do here: At an old job of mine, my boss came up to me one day and asked me to find her some great klesmer music, but I had no idea at the time what to do with that request, especially in terms of the modern day indie music that I spent so much of my time listening to then. And then last year all of that changed, when I - almost on accident - stumbled upon Brooklyn's own klesmer sensations Golem. Not to be confused with that not-so-precious creature from the fairly popular film about a ring and some elves, this Eastern European folk-punk band tore up the Heeb magazine party at SXSW, and despite finding myself at the tail end of an exhausting few days I couldn't HELP but want to jump up and dance around with their infectious music. If you've ever been at a concert and thought to yourself "wow this is great, but it would really be 10,000 times better if everyone formed a circle and did the hora"... then I SERIOUSLY encourage you to come and check out what Golem have going on. Fellow After The Jump-er Jerry Yeti really likes them too, and he managed to throw in a whole "American Tail" analogy that you might also appreciate. He and I will surely have some beers and dance around (Yeti's might do that, I hear), though I never knew that Fival was so punk rock? Anyways, here is a track from the band's excellently titled album Fresh Off The Boat. Golem - Warsaw Is Khelm Golem are playing on the Metromix.com stage at 4pm THIS SATURDAY at ATJF so please do not miss them!!! I will have an interview with the band up later this week (if my computer holds out on me and all else does not fail), and you can take a gander around all the After The Jump Fest blogs to see what other awesome music lies in store for you. Finally, here is a lot of VERY important ATJF info - namely the line up and a run down of our fabulous sponsors, without whom this charity event would basically be impossible.
