it's pleasant with peasant (and other quiet tunes)
It is that quiet time of year now. The clocks are turned back, there was a frost advisory last night (brr), Starbucks had brought out the holiday cups to hold your egg nog latte, and in general the idea of listening to music from the cosy confines of your warm apartment is probably seeming more and more appealing.
During CMJ, I was introduced to a band whose low key tunes are, in my opinion, the perfect mellow accompaniment to a chilly November evening. Peasant, aka singer/songwriter Damien DeRose, hails from PA and sings tenderly crafted folk rock songs that could lull anyone into a dream-like state.
DeRose's new full length album is going to be released on Paper Garden Records (also home to my faves Eagle*Seagull!) in February of 2008, but here are two tracks to give you a little preview. You can also catch Peasant at two upcoming NYC area shows, including a free gig on November 26th at Knitting Factory (which is free!) and another, probably more intimate, show at Rockwood Music Hall on the 28th.
Peasant - On The Ground
Peasant - Fine Is Fine
And while we are on the subject, here is a teeny mix of other nice quiet tracks. Light a candle, grab your slippers and play these all in a row (I'm getting sleepy at my desk just writing this entry btw...zzzzz....)
Hello, Blue Roses - Shadow Falls
Wild Sweet Oranges - 10 Dead Dogs
The Antlers - Apple Orchard (Beach House cover --- preeeetty)
She Keeps Bees - Revival
The Caribbean - The Go From Tactical
